What is the difference between Online and In-Person EMDR Therapy?

No matter whether you do EMDR Therapy online or in person, the principles are the same.

EMDR remains an 8 phase process.

These are the two main differences:

You’ll be meeting me online via Zoom.

Some people prefer meeting face to face and that is absolutely fine, however face to face is not always accessible.

Some benefits of online therapy are that you can have your appointment in whatever space you feel safe/comfortable in, and no matter the weather or motivation to leave the house. It also means, you can be anywhere in Australia.

Rapport building is already an important part of EMDR Therapy as a whole, so you don’t have to worry that in session 1, we’ll be unpacking every horrible thing you’ve ever experienced.

The bilateral stimulation in Phase 4 & 5 will be using a dot on your computer screen.

Instead of ‘finger waving’ or using a light bar, we will use an online platform that has been built for EMDR Therapy. It is called https://www.bilateralstimulation.io/ .

Whilst you have your video call open, you will also have the Bilateral Stimulation site open and I will control the dot speed/direction.
